2021 Annual Report

More

At Flone Initiative, our approach revolves around three core areas: Knowledge generation, Movement building, and Behavioral change.

Under our programs:

  1. Women In Transport: Through our Women in Transportation (WIT) program, we aim to identify and tackle barriers hindering women’s entry into public transport. Our efforts focus on advocating for safe spaces and better working conditions for women, combating stigma, conducting capacity-building workshops for professional development, and supporting public transport organizations in enhancing access for vulnerable groups.
  2. Usalama wa Uma: This program is designed to train public transport providers, primarily male workers, in preventing sexual harassment, promoting gender sensitivity, improving customer service, and fostering personal and professional development.
  3. Women And Transport Africa Conference: Our conference aims to stimulate research and discussion on transportation issues affecting older persons, disabled individuals, children, caregivers, and women’s quality of life in Africa. It serves as a platform to review past achievements, explore practical applications of research and lived experiences, and highlight solutions to ongoing challenges.
  4. Report It Stop It: Flone Initiative’s “Report it! Stop it!” application facilitates the mapping of SGBV (Sexual and Gender-Based Violence) hotspots in public transport systems and associated spaces. The data collected informs our interventions, and the platform is accessible through our website and mobile application.
  5. Research: This program focuses on generating knowledge in inclusive mobility, aiming to bridge the data gap concerning the connection between gender and sustainable mobility in Africa through research initiatives.
