OUR CAUSES

Championing Women's Safety in Public Transport

Flone Initiative is a women-led organization working towards the creation of safe, sustainable and accessible public transportation spaces for women and vulnerable groups in Africa by influencing behavioural change, generating knowledge and movement-building.

OUR CAUSES

Inclusive and Functional Public Mobility System

This priority area aims at ensuring that transportation systems are accessible to all. This focuses on creating public transportation infrastructure that caters to the diverse needs of society.

Kenya lacks an inclusive and functional public transport system, which
disproportionately affects marginalized and vulnerable individuals. FLONE is committed to changing this reality through the interventions focusing on inclusive programming, building movements for change, and mainstreaming mobility practices,

Research And Knowledge Generation

As Flone, we are committed to conducting rigorous research to gather data on user needs, system performance, and environmental impacts, which is central to building a deeper understanding of how public transport can be optimized.

Sharing these findings widely allows policymakers, industry leaders, and advocacy groups to align their efforts and create stronger, data-driven policies that support the growth and improvement of public transportation systems.

Policy Engagement and Advocacy

Advocating for public transport policies that are inclusive and supportive of vulnerable groups is key to ensuring equitable access to mobility for all members of society. Offering technical assistance to government agencies can help shape policies that address the specific needs of various marginalized groups.

By providing expert guidance and recommendations, advocacy efforts can ensure that public transport systems are designed to be accessible, affordable, and reliable for everyone, fostering an environment of equal opportunity. Furthermore, engaging with policymakers to create more inclusive and supportive frameworks ensures that vulnerable populations are not left behind in urban development and transport planning.

Health & Environmental Sustainability in Mobility

Health and environmental sustainability in mobility are deeply interconnected, with sustainable transport practices playing a key role in reducing the negative environmental impact of transportation systems. Promoting cleaner, greener alternatives such as public transit, cycling, walking, and electric vehicles can decrease air pollution, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and help mitigate climate change. This shift towards sustainable mobility not only benefits the environment but also improves public health by reducing exposure to harmful pollutants and encouraging physical activity.

Organizational Development And Sustainability

This key priority area focuses on building a strong and effective organizational capacity to ensure that Flone can successfully deliver on its mandate. This requires a focus on developing a resilient structure that supports operational efficiency, fosters collaboration, and adapts to evolving challenges in the mobility sector.

By strengthening internal systems, enhancing staff skills, and creating a culture of continuous improvement, Flone Initiative will effectively meet its objectives and respond to both opportunities and obstacles in a timely and coordinated manner.
